  • Kate Middleton may have copied Sophie, Countess of Wessex’s formula for living a royal life
  • The Duchess of Cambridge and Sophie bantered during a video call
  • Royal experts and fans want to see more of Middleton and Sophie together

Kate Middleton and Sophie, Countess of Wessex, have a close bond and according to a body language expert, Prince William’s wife may have copied the latter’s formula for living a royal life when she joined the royal family.

The Duchess of Cambridge and Countess of Wessex have been spotted joining video calls together during the lockdown and many love their tandem. According to Judi James, when Sophie married Prince Edward, she was hailed as the new Princess Diana. However, her relationship with the royal family is way better compared to the late Princess of Wales’.

“But what followed looked like a masterclass in hunkering in as the soap-opera-free royal bride who managed to be a stabilising influence on her husband while keeping press and royal fan attention to a minimum,” James told Express.

The expert also noted Sophie’s close bond with her mother-in-law Queen Elizabeth II. In fact, many are convinced that Sophie is the Queen’s favorite royal. For James, Middleton is following Sophie’s footsteps in terms of living her royal life because the duchess manages to perform her duties well while avoiding controversies.

“Sophie’s formula does appear to have been copied by Kate too,” James said. “This is because – so far – she has managed to tread the very fine line of creating interest that is positive but not unmanageable.”

James also noted Middleton and Sophie’s connection as the royals have been attending similar events together before the lockdown. She noticed their mirroring gestures and how the countess seemed to look after the younger duchess.

“Many of the poses of the two women together show Sophie face-checking Kate with quite strong bouts of watchful-looking eye contact to suggest she’s taking a semi-maternal approach. However, she also has raised brows and what’s called a ‘pinging’ smile that implies she wants to ensure Kate is enjoying herself,” James continued.

“There is some mirroring when the two women walk together but it’s primarily Sophie projecting the stronger signals of relaxed confidence while Kate smiles happily at her side.”

Meanwhile, royal experts Roberta Fiorito and Rachel Bowie love Middleton and Sophie’s close bond, which was evident in the way they bantered during a video call.

Royal author Christopher Wilson also wants to see more of the two royals because they represent the “very best” that fans hope for in royal women.

“We look forward to seeing much more of them as a team,” Wilson said.
