Kate Middleton and Prince William’s upcoming tour could be canceled.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are set to make an official visit to Pakistan in a few days. Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams warned that the tour could be canceled if the officials are not satisfied with the security arrangement.

“Clearly the situation arising from India’s recent revoking of the special status of the disputed region of Kashmir, which is administered by India, will be monitored closely by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and its evaluation of how events proceed will obviously determine whether the visit goes ahead,” he told Express.

“There is considerable sensitivity in the sub-continent with regard to the British connection as both India and Pakistan are former British colonies.”

Prince William and Middleton’s Pakistan tour is deemed to be more challenging than Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s South Africa tour. Royal editor Russell Myers said in the “Pod Save the Queen” podcast that the future king and queen’s trip is very significant and historic.

“It’s hugely important, hugely historic,” Myers said. “Probably the biggest trip in terms of the pressure that comes with it, the security aspect and the region.”

Prince William and Middleton’s visit in Pakistan will be the first official one to be made by the royal family since 2006 when Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles visited the country. A source also said that the Pakistan tour is “the most complex tour undertaken” by Prince William and Middleton to date given the logistical and security considerations.

In related news, Prince Harry and Markle surprised many when they announced that they filed a lawsuit against a British publication for wrongfully publishing the duchess’ letters to her father. Royal experts felt that the couple’s royal move had overshadowed their entire trip.

“It has completely overshadowed the tour,” royal correspondent Valentine Low said.

“We had to drop our story last night on gender-based violence—an issue the duchess has been really keen to highlight—to talk about Harry and Meghan’s relationship with the press,” Chris Ship added.
