Meghan Markle made a shocking move when she decided to sue a tabloid company for leaking her private letters.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are still in Africa for an official tour. Everything is going smoothly for them, with some believing that the royal couple has finally turned things in their favor after enduring negative headlines all year long.

However, in the midst of their tour, the couple announced that they are suing the Mail on Sunday for infringement of copyright and misuse of private information after it published excerpts from Markle’s private letters to her father, Thomas Markle Sr.

The move gained several reactions from royal experts who admitted that Markle and Prince Harry’s decision to sue was an “utter bombshell.”

“We had no idea this was coming. It was a complete and utter bombshell, and I got the impression that London—Buckingham Palace, Clarence House, and Kensington Palace—didn’t really know it was coming either,” one reporter told Vanity Fair.

The source added that the communication team looked shell-shocked when the news broke. The insider added that most of them did not see it coming.

“The statement has become the story,” ITV’s royal editor Chris Ship said.

Ship traveled with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to Botswana, Angola and Malawi. He was also with them in Johannesburg on Wednesday. He added that the shocking news about the royal couple’s legal move garnered more interest than the other reports they were supposed to air related to the tour.

“We had to drop our story last night on gender-based violence—an issue the duchess has been really keen to highlight—to talk about Harry and Meghan’s relationship with the press,” Ship added.

Princess Diana’s former private secretary Patrick Jephson also commented about Markle’s bombshell. According to him, the litigation is easy to start, but nobody can predict the path it will take or the damage it can cause.

“If the Sussexes have a well-planned strategy it has got off to a strange start, trampling on the good news of a successful tour,” Jephson said.

In related news, Prince Harry has been criticized for his recent speeches. Many were not happy when he called the people to end greed and selfishness because for them, he was not the best person to talk about it. The duke was also accused of using the “Diana” card after he compared his mom Princess Diana’s and wife Markle’s struggles with the press.
