  • Middleton first wore them during the National Windrush Monument at London's Waterloo Station last year

Kate Middleton may be known for wearing lavish jewelry at royal events, but she could also pull off wearing inexpensive and already-used accessories to vamp up her style.

The 41-year-old Princess of Wales was spotted wearing a familiar pair of earrings while attending an event hosted by the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood in London, Vogue reported.

During the event, Middleton donned a bright red tailored pantsuit paired with the chunky Art-Deco style earrings made by Chalk, a Black woman-owned jewelry brand based in the United Kingdom. The outlet noted that the accessory was handcrafted by a London-based architect named Malaika Carr.

The earrings — which named Florence and valued at £75 ($92.53)— were inspired by the "ornate details and geometry" found within the main stage auditorium ceiling of the Royal Opera House, a major performing arts venue located in Convent Garden, central London, according to the store's website.

Middleton's choice of jewels may come as a shock to some since Great Britain's royal family often has a team meticulously planning their wardrobe. But the move was impressive since it aimed to highlight a more sustainable and eco-conscious approach during public appearances, according to Vogue.

The Princess first wore the pair at the National Windrush Monument at London's Waterloo Station in June 2022. The holiday marked the arrival of the Afro-Caribbean migrants, who were on board the Empire Windrush ship in 1948, to the U.K., and continuously honors the contributions of the immigrants to the British economy, according to Page Six.

Middleton attended the event with her husband, Prince William, 40, who wore a classic navy blue suit. The Princess, for her part, wore an all-white Alexander McQueen trouser suit paired with green-toned earrings.

The earrings were relatively cheaper than other accessories the Princess wore; however, it seemed appropriate at the time since citizens across the U.K. were "grappling with a cost-living crisis" when some workers even struggled to provide food for their children.

Page Six also spoke to Carr, the designer of the jewels, to get her reaction to seeing Middleton wear the stunning pair, to which she said, "I was blown away seeing HRH in our Florence earrings. The earrings paired with the white suit looked phenomenal."

It appeared that Middleton was fond of repeating outfits as well. The Windrush anniversary marked the second time she wore the Alexander McQueen-designed ensemble, only in a different color. She wore a pink version of the outfit at a roundtable discussion with government officials last year.
