Kate Middleton and Pippa Middleton’s engagement rings have been compared.

The Duchess of Cambridge is very close to her younger sister. Since both married someone from a prominent family, Emily Hodgkin of Express compared the engagement rings they received from their partners.

Pippa’s engagement ring reportedly cost a whopping $323,266. It features an Art Deco halo style with large channel-set diamonds. It is either platinum or white gold with Asscher center diamond which is estimated to be three carats. The diamond alone costs $259,000.

“It is Art Deco in style with an octagonal halo of round diamonds surrounding what looks to be a 4 carat Asscher cut diamond. Asscher cut diamonds are step cut inside, which means there are fewer facets than standard shapes such as round or princess square cuts,” David Christopher Allen, Creative Director of 77 Diamonds, described Pippa’s ring.

“This means that their clarity has to be of the highest quality and close to flawless to show off the beautiful structure of the diamond.”

On the other hand, Middleton’s engagement ring, which was originally bought for Princess Diana in 1981 only costs $36, 852. When inflation is taken into account the ring costs the equivalent of $129, 632.

Technically, Pippa’s ring cost more than Middleton’s. However, the history of the ring means that the Duchess of Cambridge’s band has more than doubled in value. Middleton’s engagement ring is now valued at $387, 920.

Pippa and Middleton are often compared. In fact, some accused the duchess’ younger sister of stealing her thunder during her royal wedding. However, royal biographer Andrew Morton doesn’t think so.

“The day was Catherine’s day and Pippa played a significant walk-on part, that was it. I don’t think she stole the show. Pippa had an exotic walk-on part,” Morton explained.

Denise Allford, a close friend of the Middletons, said that both Pippa and Middleton are very competitive. However, the siblings are more than a team than competitors against each other.
