  • Middleton's uncle believes Markle may know "how to manipulate" due to her previous profession

Kate Middleton's uncle Gary has come to her defense and said he doesn't believe Meghan Markle's claim that his niece made her cry.

Markle said in her interview with Oprah Winfrey earlier this month that despite reports claiming otherwise, it was Middleton who drove her to tears in a clash prior to her and Prince Harry's 2018 wedding. However, Gary, older brother of the Duchess of Cambridge's mother Carole, suggested Markle may not have been telling the truth because his niece "doesn't have a mean bone in her body."

"It's just simply not in her nature," he told U.K.'s Daily Mail of Middleton, adding, "She's even lovelier on the inside than on the outside."

Gary was not present during the alleged incident, but he speculated that it was Markle who "had a hissy fit" and suggested that "Kate would have been trying to make the peace."

"I would fight for Kate's honor until the day I die. She is the most spectacular person I've ever met," Middleton's uncle continued.

He also expressed disapproval over the Sussexes’ decision to participate in the tell-all with Winfrey. Gary claimed he initially felt that Markle and Prince Harry's union was a "marriage made in heaven," but "what has happened is heartbreaking."

Gary added that he doesn’t believe Markle’s version of events because the duchess was "an actress and knows how to manipulate her audience." Further, he partly blamed Prince Harry for Markle's mental health issues, considering this was one of his advocacies.

"The last time I checked, he was the face of a mental wellbeing charity," Middleton's uncle added. "Where was he in all this? Surely as her husband, he should have been able to give her the help and support she needed... He's a senior Army officer who has been in a war zone. He should be able to stand up for himself and his wife."

During Prince Harry and Markle's CBS sit-down interview with Winfrey, the duchess spoke about reports that she left Middleton in tears due to an argument over bridesmaid dresses, insisting that "the reverse happened."

Markle said everyone in the palace knew that she did not make Middleton cry, but no one spoke up to clarify the rumors. However, the Duchess of Sussex said Middleton immediately made amends privately after the incident.

"And I don't say that to be disparaging to anyone, because it was a really hard week of the wedding, and she was upset about something. But she owned it, and she apologized and she brought me flowers and a note apologizing," Markle explained.

The former "Suits" star also called her sister-in-law a "good person" and said she hopes people would stop pitting them against each other.

"If you love me, you don't have to hate her. And if you love her, you don't have to hate me," Markle said.
