“John Wick” star Keanu Reeves came very close to joining “Hobbs & Shaw” in a cameo role. Director David Leitch has revealed in recent interviews that he was in talks with the actor about how to introduce him into the franchise.

Leitch told The Hollywood Reporter that he wanted Reeves to play a character who had just enough screen time to tease the future possibilities. He did not want the “John Wick” star to come in just for a cameo, as he wanted to introduce a major character who could play a substantial role in the future movies.

Reeves got to see a rough cut of the film during his discussions to see where he could come in. The director was keen on getting the actor into the film, but he also didn’t want to “force” anything. In the end, the plans didn’t materialize.

What role was Reeves considering? According to Collider, it appears to be the director of the mysterious organization known as Eteon. The character remained nameless and faceless in “Hobbs & Shaw,” but his scene left no doubt in the minds of the audience that the character will play a significant role in the future.

Leitch felt that it was better to keep the mystery of the new character and not give the character a face for now. This means that the door is still open for the “John Wick” star to step into this role in one of the future movies if he likes it.

The director told Screen Rant that their goal was to hire Reeves to play the Director of Eteon, but they changed their mind after they felt that this introduction wouldn’t make sense creatively for the film. Leitch described the decision as the “best thing” for the film.

Reeves is currently busy filming “Bill & Ted Face the Music.” He will later reprise his role as the lead in “John Wick: Chapter 4” that is set to be released in 2021.
