Kids Aged 4 And 6 Live With Dad's Corpse Without Food Or Water For Three Days Straight

Two young children were discovered living alongside their father's decomposing corpse as they were left to fend for themselves for three days straight after the 32-year-old hanged himself.

Unaware of what to do, the children had continued to live inside the home with the corpse. The shocking incident came to light after the kids knocked at a neighbor's house asking for food.

Manoj Dayal from Bareilly, a city in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, was found dead at his house Tuesday when a neighbor checked on him.

Dayal's two children, a 4-year-old girl and a 6-year-old boy, approached the neighbor the same day complaining that their father was neither talking to them nor giving them food. The neighbor who grew suspicious checked the house and found Dayal's body hanging low from the ceiling, reported Times of India.

The police believe that Dayal must have ended his life three days ago as his body was already decomposing. Dayal, who was working in Noida, a city in Uttar Pradesh, had come back to Bareilly due to lockdown restrictions. Dayal was working from home on a reduced salary and his wife had left the house last week after a dispute with him, Times Now News reported.

"The post-mortem report confirmed the cause of death as antemortem hanging. The body was nearly three days old and children were living in the same house with the corpse of their father," Rohit Singh Sajwan, Senior Superintendent of Police, told Times of India.

The children are now under the care of a relative. "No FIR has been lodged as of now and it is a case of suicide," Sajwan added.

A similar incident was reported last month in Arizona. Investigators responded to a report of two children crying on the porch of an apartment in Phoenix. The responders who entered the apartment saw the body of a 30-year-old woman near her 4-week-old baby. The elder siblings, aged 2 and 3, were seen naked and crying. All three children were unharmed and the mother's body had signs of trauma. Investigators believe that the woman had died a couple of days before.
