One of the lead characters of “Lethal Weapon” might not get a happy ending.

In a recent interview with TV Guide, executive producer Matt Miller revealed they might end up killing Riggs (Clayne Crawford) at some point of the Fox series.

“I think it’s a little bit of a Sisyphus thing,” Miller said of Riggs’ battle with his own inner demons. “He’s going to climb and push the boulder up, and it’s always going to kind of roll back. … I don’t know how long this show will last, but I think he should probably die at some point. Not soon, but at some point, that would be a way to say goodbye to the show.”

While Riggs’ death isn’t something that’s already set in stone, Season 2 will delve deeper into the character’s trouble past in an attempt to explain his present-day emotional instability.

Miller told TVLine last month that viewers will learn early in the new season that Riggs was already broken inside long before his wife Miranda (Floriana Lima) died. “What we start to realize is that it wasn’t simply that he was mourning the death of his wife, but that this guy was broken long before that, in early childhood,” the exec producer said.

According to the news outlet, fans will find out more about Riggs’ childhood through his therapy sessions with Cahill (Jordana Brewster). In the trailer for this week’s Season 2, episode 2, Riggs declares that he’s healthier, but by the looks of Cahill’s face, it’s obvious that she doesn’t think the same.

As previously reported, Season 2 will also feature some flashback scenes involving a teenage version of Riggs (Chase Mangum) and his dad (Rex Linn), which will hopefully help the viewers understand the cop’s issues.

The new season will also introduce two of Riggs’ childhood friends, Molly (Lyn Collins) and Jake (Linds Edwards). According to The Hollywood Reporter, Molly moves from Texas to Los Angeles so her 8-year-old son could grow closer to his father, Jake, who is in prison. Although Jake is Riggs’ childhood best friend, Miller told TVLine that Molly might end up as a new love interest for Riggs.

“Lethal Weapon” Season 2, episode 2, titled “Dancing in September,” airs tonight at 8 p.m. on Fox.
