Mayor Eric Garcetti is requiring all Los Angeles residents to wear face masks each time they leave their homes.

The announcement was made late Wednesday as Garcetti issued a new executive order as the state eases its stay-at-home orders.

“You never know when you're going to bump into somebody around a corner in a park and see somebody. Have your mask with you when you leave your house,” said Fox LA, citing Garcetti's statement.

The order will only exempt small children or people with disabilities who might be “harmed by a face mask,” said Fox News.

Mayor Garcetti previously had a similar order during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The chief executive ordered all residents to wear face coverings whenever they visit essential businesses, while riding buses, taxis, ride-share vehicles or at the Los Angeles International Airport.

The easing of its stay-at-home order on the other hand gave business owners something to look forward to. Retail locations in Los Angeles are now allowed to reopen provided that they only cater to curbside pickup and delivery while strictly implementing social distancing.

Businesses are not “mandated to open” during this time, and Garcetti encouraged them that “if they need more time, they should take it,” said the Los Angeles Blade. It also pointed that businesses that reopened must complete a Retail Establishments Opening for Curbside Pickup checklist as ordered by the Los Angeles County Health Officer.

Motorized vehicles are also advised that they will be restricted from certain streets this weekend to make room for people who are biking and walking.

Recreational placed in the county and the city were allow to reopen, but were limited to trails, tennis courts, equestrian facilities, model airplane fields and golf courses, said the Los Angeles Blade. Beaches on the other hand can open their shores to their patrons, but activities will also be limited to swimming, surfing, walking and running. Sunbathing and sitting on the beach are still prohibited.

“This is really tough work. And I want to remind you, this is about saving the lives of people we know,” Garcetti said, through Fox 11, as he reminded residents who are over the age of 65 and those with underlying health conditions not to go outside their homes.
