A Louisiana man has been arrested for killing his grandmother and injuring four others during a spree that ended with officers shooting and hurting the suspect.

Police received a call Sunday morning regarding a domestic incident at a residence in the Wimbledon neighborhood. Aaron Morgan, 28, allegedly stabbed his grandmother and mother before stealing the elderly woman's car and fleeing the scene, reported WBRZ.

Morgan drove to Alexander's grocery store parking lot along Highland Road, where he allegedly stole another vehicle after shooting three people. From there, he drove to the corner of Bluebonnet Boulevard and Jefferson Highway.

"EBRSO Deputies located the suspect driving a short time later and attempted to stop the vehicle," East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office said.

According to deputies, Morgan abandoned the stolen car there and ran. He allegedly tried to carjack someone else after exiting the vehicle. He then jumped over a fence and pointed a gun at the officers and the deputies fired.

The suspect was shot twice and taken to a hospital, KATC said in a report. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries. No one else was injured in the altercation.

Morgan's grandmother, identified as 78-year-old Dianne Gafford, succumbed to her injuries. The mother, whose identity was not released to the public, managed to survive.

Medics from a walk-in clinic in the parking lot treated the three shooting victims. They are all expected to recover, police said.

Once released from the hospital, Morgan will be charged with his grandmother's murder as well as numerous other offenses, including the shootings.

On Twitter, Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome released a statement saying "This morning a terrible tragedy occurred in our community where several people were injured and at least one has died. There is no longer an active threat thanks to the quick work of our first responders—our public safety agencies are still responding to this traumatic event."

"We are in communication with law enforcement as more details unfold. Please pray for those recovering from their injuries. Also, thank you to the good Samaritans who rushed in moments after the incident to render aid," Broome added.
