Luke Cage
"Jessica Jones" may have just revealed the release date of the show starring Luke Cage (Mike Colter) on its official Twitter account. Netflix

After making his debut on Marvel and Netflix’s immensely popular new series “Jessica Jones,” Luke Cage (Mike Colter) is about to get a spinoff series all his own. Recently, thanks to a clever teaser posted by the “Jessica Jones” Twitter account, it seems fans have their first clue as to when his solo show will debut.

Marvel and Netflix are well into their ambitious TV plan to bring four Marvel superheroes to life on the small-screen before uniting them for a “Defenders” miniseries. However, with the first two installments in this plan, “Daredevil” and “Jessica Jones,” being such colossal hits for the streaming service, it now has to factor in their respective second seasons. It was recently revealed that “Daredevil” will drop another 13 episodes on Netflix on March 18 and “Jessica Jones” was recently green-lit by the company for another season as well. However, Luke Cage has been filming since the fall in New York City, and will be the next show to drop after “Daredevil” Season 2. The question now becomes: When?

Eagle-eyed fans noticed a possible answer to that question in a recent post on the “Jessica Jones” Twitter page, in which her always cluttered desk features a case file with Cage’s name next to a very specific word — “November.”

Before fans run off to mark their calendars and prepare for another Netflix binge, there are a few things worth considering. For one, if this is the company’s way of announcing the release date of “Luke Cage,” it would be very different from the usual way in which it reveals these kind of things. For example, when the date for Season 2 of “Daredevil” was announced, it was by way of a teaser trailer and an exciting new poster for the series. “Jessica Jones” announced its first season much in the same way.

Another reason to scratch one’s head about the odd tease is the fact that it appears on the social media account for “Jessica Jones” despite the fact that “Luke Cage” has an active Twitter account of its own. As ComicBookResource notes, it’s entirely possible that “Jessica Jones” is somehow teasing the release date for its own second season. While it would be odd to stick it next to Cage’s name and drop the news so many months early, it would mark one year since the release of the show’s first season. With “Daredevil” Season 2 coming out 11 months after its first run, it’s possible “Jessica Jones” is following the same trajectory. However, odds are much more likely that if Netflix is trying to tell its audience something, it has to do with “Luke Cage.”

In 2015, Time reported that Netflix announced its plans to release one of its Marvel comics-based TV shows every six months, meaning it may be even more than a year before we see more “Jessica Jones,” but that would put the “Luke Cage” premiere roughly seven months after “Daredevil,” which would be in keeping with Netflix’s desired pace. In the meantime, fans can look forward to another adventure with Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) as he takes on The Punisher (Jon Bernthal).
