One Direction fans are not happy with Madame Tussauds after the wax museum announced that after seven years, they were going to remove the group’s wax figures from their display.

According to The Sun, Madame Tussauds London made the decision to remove the wax figures of Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Zayn Malik from their display as part of their update plans, and that the decision was made following the band’s 10-year anniversary over the summer. As of now, there are no plans to keep the statues in separate locations to reflect the individual members’ successes since they split up in 2016.

Naturally, fans of the band were not happy about the news, immediately taking to Twitter to “cancel” the museum and express their outrage over the news.

Others also commented on the decision, noting that fans might be getting a little too worked up, especially considering other issues that have arisen in 2020.

The former bandmates and Madame Tussauds have not responded to the backlash, but it isn't uncommon for wax figures to be removed, separated or switched to other locations as things change in the celebrity world.

After Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced they were stepping down from their roles in the Royal Family early this year, their figures in both London and New York were taken out of the display honoring the royal family and moved elsewhere. Prior to their removal, they were housed next to figure honoring Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, Prince William and Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge.

Similarly, in 2016, after Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s plans to divorce were announced, their figures were separated at the museum as well.

The attempts to “cancel” the museum come as some locations finally begin to reopen to the public following COVID-19 closures. In the United States, the location in New York reopened on August 28th to the public, and locations in Las Vegas, Nashville and Orlando, Florida are also open. However, locations in Hollywood, California, San Francisco and Washington D.C. remain closed.
