A 39-year-old man in Canada has been arrested for stabbing his mother and stepfather multiple times at their home.

Conor Donnelly has been charged with second-degree murder in connection to the death of his mother, Linda Frederick, 64. He has also been charged with attempted murder for the alleged stabbing of his stepfather, Michel Sabourin.

Authorities received a call of a stabbing incident around 9:30 p.m. at a home in Barrhaven, Ottawa, on Sunday. First responders arriving at the scene found two victims, Michel Sabourin, 66 and his wife, Linda Fredrick, 64, suffering from multiple stab wounds, CBC reported.

Sabourin, who had called the police after he was stabbed, had made his way to a neighbor's front porch where police found him. Officers and paramedics found Frederick's body inside the couple's home. The emergency crew was able to remove the body from the house before Donnelly barricaded himself inside.

According to the police, Donnelly, who did not live at the house, was armed with a knife. He allegedly threatened to harm the officers.

Crisis negotiators and armed tactical officers were called to the scene. Authorities evacuated people from surrounding homes during the police operation. After a long stand-off, police entered the home’s garage around 2 a.m. and apprehended the man.

Sabourin was taken to a hospital with multiple stab wounds and is said to be in a critical condition.

Donnelly made a brief court appearance Monday afternoon via a video call. During the appearance, Donnelly threatened to "annihilate" those who addressed him and also called the judge a "fake judge."

The judge asked the court to mute Donnelly for being "abusive," CBC reported.

One of the neighbors from the nearby homes told CTV News that police directed them to evacuate their house around 10 p.m. and asked them not to return until Monday.

Talking about the victims, neighbors said the couple were inseparable and recalled them as being friendly and well-liked. "We're going to miss Linda a lot," the neighbor said to the outlet. "They would sit in front and wave in the summer, the two of them, everything they did was together, go shopping together, sit together in front."

Donnelly is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 17.
