A man, who accidentally slipped through a layer ofo ice while walking his pet dogs, was found frozen in Lake Baron, El Dorado County, California, on Friday.

The man, identified as 39-year-old man David Schmidt, was walking his three dogs beside the lake in Tahoe Paradise Park on Thanksgiving when he fell through thin ice.

According to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, officers were dispatched to the scene Thursday after receiving a report of a possible drowning. They found "cold weather clothing" in the lake area and launched a search. The EDSO dive team, with assistance from several other departments, continued to search the lake for the missing person until he was found the following day.

“Douglas County Sheriff’s Office utilized their advanced ROV (Remote Operated Vehicle) and were able to locate and recover the deceased person,” the sheriff’s office said Friday.

Police said there were no signs of foul play involved in the drowning and that all the signs indicated that it was a tragic accident. Meanwhile, the dogs were rescued and taken to a local veterinarian for treatment.
