An Ohio man punched his attorney in court Tuesday after he was sentenced to almost five decades in prison.

The two-minute video of the assault, captured by Cuyahoga County sheriff deputy’s body camera, shows 42-year-old David Chislton punching his defense attorney Aaron Brockler upon finding out that he was sentenced to 47 years in prison. The courtroom security then tried to subdue him. Brockler suffered severe concussion and a broken nose and was taken to MetroHealth hospital for treatment.

"I turned in to talk to him, and I just felt a swoosh and saw stars. And I remember waking up underneath the trial table," Brockler told Fox 8. He added that he wanted to “tell him 'I'll come and see you privately to discuss what your options are,' and before I could even get the words out, I just got sucker punched right in the side of the head.”

"While his crimes were serious, I think it was just a big number for him and he lashed out against me for whatever reason," Brockler added.

Brockler also felt the incident could have been avoided.

“He had the handcuffs around the front of him, so that means he had full range of motion... Down, in, sideways, typically the inmates are restrained behind their back, but from the minute he came out, he had his hands in front of him," he said.

Chislton pistol-whipped his girlfriend and set the house on fire in 2017 after she accused him of sexually abusing her 15-year-old daughter. He was also accused of killing a dog. He pleaded guilty to “aggravated arson, felonious assault, domestic violence and cruelty against a companion animal,” Cleveland.com reported.

In a statement issued Thursday, Common Pleas Court Administrative Judge John J. Russo said, "What occurred in courtroom 18-C today was unfortunate, and we are thankful that Attorney Aaron Brockler was not more seriously injured. We wish him the best in a speedy recovery.”

Additional charges could be filed against Chislton related to the assault.
