A man in England was taken into custody after he gatecrashed an 8-year-old girl’s birthday party and stabbed her 12-year-old brother multiple times.

The 20-year-old accused, whose identity has not been revealed, stormed into the birthday party in the backyard of a home in Liverpool, and repeatedly stabbed the boy who was playing on the bouncy castle. The attack took place Wednesday afternoon in front of 14 other kids and the mother of the victim, Liverpool Echo reported.

While the accused fled the scene, the unnamed boy was rushed to a local hospital where he will be undergoing surgery. The injuries were reported to be non-life-threatening, BBC reported.

On Thursday morning, the police took the accused into custody.

"Although it is pleasing to have made a quick arrest, our investigation continues and we're gathering all information to piece together the circumstances. If you saw anything or hold any CCTV, dashcam, or other material, get them to us as soon as possible," Detective Chief Inspector Gayle Rooney told the reporters, The Guardian reported.

Asserting it was not a random attack, the officer added, "We understand the concern that such an incident has in the community. This was not a random attack and we believe that all involved were from the local area. Nonetheless, for a young person to be assaulted is despicable, so it's vitally important that anyone with details to assist comes forward."

Recalling the incident, the victim’s grandmother told Liverpool Echo the accused "came straight in the back garden and went for him, punching and kicking him and then stabbed him three times."

"There was a lot of blood so we just tried to keep pressure on the wound until the ambulance came. There were around 14 children in the garden and we got them inside as quick as we could,” she added.

The motive behind the stabbing was not known.

The incident comes months after a 15-year-old teen in London was arrested after he stabbed two girls while they were walking toward their schools.
