“Man of Steel” 2 is reportedly in the works at Warner Bros. studio.

But while it’ll take some time before the actual Superman sequel hits theaters, DC fans are already eager to find out who the Man of Steel will be battling against in his next standalone movie.

Check out four villains who could appear in “Man of Steel” 2:

1. Metallo

John Corben/Metallo is one of the most iconic villains in the “Superman” comics and would be perfect for the “Man of Steel” sequel, according to The Wrap.

After being experimented on by the U.S. Army, the former conman was given cybernetic enhancements and became the cyborg Metallo. He has a heart made of kryptonite, which can take down Superman through exposure alone.

Metallo has yet to be featured in any of the movie and TV adaptations of “Superman.” However, Emmet Vale, Metallo’s creator, briefly appeared in the summer blockbuster “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.”

Could this be a hint that Superman will be taking on the metallic criminal in the future?

2. Brainiac

Considered to be the Man of Steel’s greatest nemesis after Lex Luthor, Brainiac could be the best choice for the antagonist of the Superman sequel, CinemaBlend noted.

Like Superman, he comes from another planet and has many abilities such as super strength and telekinesis. As his name says, Brainiac is known for his advanced mental capacity and has been depicted as the most intelligent being in the universe.

3. Bizarro

As the clone-gone-wrong, Bizarro could prove to be an interesting character to explore in the possible “Man of Steel” sequel.

Like Metallo, Bizarro is also a product of experimentation. Often depicted as a tragic character, he was created by Lex Luthor to be a "mirror image" of Superman. However, he ended up having characteristics and abilities opposite to that of Superman’s, such as having freeze vision instead of heat and diminished intelligence.

4. Lobo

Lobo has already beaten Superman two times in the comic books, so it would be interesting to see him battle it out with superhero on the big screen.

Created in the 1980s by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo is an alien who was born in Mexico. He later became an interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter, The Wrap noted.
