A man living in New York who once claimed he was rescued by aliens is facing a federal felony and is accused of lying to renew his pilot’s license.

Noah Felice, 70, has a lengthy record of convictions and is currently accused of lying on a federal form to renew his medical certifications as a pilot.

Felice and his cousin were once part of a deadly crash while flying over the Pacific Ocean in 1980. While he was piloting the aircraft, Felice claimed a beam of liquid light erupted from the water and forced him to crash, leaving his cousin dead. Felice was 28 years old when the incident took place. He also claimed he was rescued by aliens after his plane crashed into the water near Catalina Island.

During an appearance on a UFO special for the History Channel, Felice said he saw a strange craft in the water before the plane crashed. The mysterious object shot a beam of light that caused the aircraft’s equipment to malfunction, according to the episode’s description on IMDB. Felice also said in his account that the plane crash was caused by another beam of light.

The Federal Aviation Administration blamed Felice for the 1980 crash, according to syracuse.com. They said he was distracted while flying.

Felice is currently facing charges for lying on a federal form in 2017 to renew his medical certifications as a pilot.

“The indictment alleges that Felice stated on the form that he had no history of criminal convictions and had never received medical disability benefits, when he knew that he had been convicted of multiple prior misdemeanor offenses and was receiving disability benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs,” read a report released Wednesday by the Department of Justice.

If convicted, Felice could face a prison sentence of 5 years and a fine of up to $250,000.

Felice was convicted in 2010 for lying about past crimes while getting a pistol permit. This was also around the time when he joined the race for a town judge’s seat in Oswego County. However, he dropped out after being caught using a fake home address.

He was caught repeatedly lying about his past and had his private investigator’s license revoked in 2013. He faced charges the same year for having unregistered, loaded handguns at his house.

Apart from these, Felice was also convicted in 1982 of grand theft in California and for sexual battery in Los Angeles in 1992.
