KEY POINTS

  • Elizabeth Warren has no path forward
  • Is It Time For Warren To Quit?
  • Have the establishment Democrats cheated Sanders?

Politico, a popular political magazine, expects a new name to join the list of 2020 Democratic presidential candidate dropouts soon: Sen. Elizabeth Warren.

Performing poorly in her home state Massachusetts on Super Tuesday seems to be the straw that broke the camels back, MSN reported. Warren came in third.

If Warren suspends her campaign, she will become the fifth Democrat to do so since the primaries began. Billionaire Mike Bloomberg suspended his bid today. Former Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Sen. Amy Klobuchar and billionaire Tom Steyer dropped out prior to yesterday’s sweepstakes. Most of their voters seem to have gone to Biden.

While Sen. Bernie Sanders caucus’ with Democrats, he is not a member of the party. Sanders is an Independent.

Since Warren and Sanders were seen at the “progressives” in the race, one might think Warren’s departure would help him. However, several would-be Warren supporters said they voted for former Vice President Joe Biden yesterday or will in the future, according to Politico.

Warren’s campaign only hope is on a contested convention. Given the Massachusetts senators delegate count, 50, she probably won’t be a factor in Milwaukee at the convention.

Warren trounced Bloomberg unmercifully in a February debate. That helped her campaign raise $29 million.

The next debate isn’t until March 15, and Warren's campaign is having trouble paying the bills. It has a unionized staff of over 1,000 people. Payroll alone is more than $6 million per month which doesn’t include benefits.

According to Opensecrets, Groups like EMILY’s List, along with late financial help from Persist PAC, spent $14.8 million and bought more than $12 million in broadcast advertising to cover for Warren ahead of Super Tuesday. Most of that was in California. It has said that it is not placing ad buys for March 10, the date of the Michigan, Missouri and Washington primaries.

Biden is polling better than Sanders in each of the states.

Despite calls to do otherwise, Warren said she will stay in the race. Warren asked supporters to tune out the results and vote for the person they believed would be the best president at a rally in Detroit, saying, “Prediction has been a terrible business and the pundits have gotten it wrong over and over.”
