Since 2017, Matt Lauer has been at the center of a sexual assault scandal. The former “Today” show host was fired from his job at NBC and retreated to a life of seclusion in the Hamptons. However, his accuser recently came forward and shared details about the reporter’s inappropriate behavior.

The new information has thrust Lauer back into the spotlight, and insiders claim Lauer’s ex-wife, Annette Roque, has been suffering in silence.

Those close to the model told Us Weekly that she doesn’t regret leaving her husband, but she regrets that “she didn’t divorce Matt sooner.”

The source claimed that the former couple’s marriage had been deteriorating over the years, but Roque had several reasons for staying married to the anchor.

“Annette wanted out of the marriage for a long time … She stayed for Matt’s career — and, more important, for their kids. But in the past five years, she’s been through hell,” the insider said.

Lauer and Roque share three children, Jack, 18, Romy, 16, and Thijs, 12. The Dutch model didn’t want to disrupt her children’s lives with a split, but the couple couldn’t settle their differences.

“There were cracks in the marriage from very early on. Matt has always been a ladies’ man, and there were affairs in the beginning,” an insider previously told Us Weekly.

In Ronan Farrow’s book, “Catch and Kill,” former NBC employee Brooke Nevils accused Lauer of anally raping her in his hotel room in Sochi, Russia. The 32-year-old claimed the attack to place during the 2014 Winter Olympics.

However, Lauer has since denied Nevils’ allegations. “The story Brooke tells is filled with false details intended only to create the impression this was an abusive encounter. Nothing could be further from the truth,” he said in a statement
