Matt Lauer has been doing his best to keep a low profile since he was fired from the “Today” show last year, but a new report is claiming the anchor was banned from returning to the daytime show during a special celebration.

NBC announced Lauer’s termination in 2017, after receiving a sexual harassment complaint from a female employee. Since then, Lauer has remained out of the spotlight, while dealing with his rumored divorce from his wife, Annette Roque.

However, RadarOnline published an article claiming Lauer was not invited to attend “Today” show anchor, Al Roker’s 40th-anniversary celebration. An unidentified insider reportedly told the site “there was discussion of Matt doing a video message, but executives cut that idea down.”

In the end, the network allegedly though it was best “to pretend Matt never existed” while celebrating Roker, even though the two became the faces of the daytime show. “For a decade the show promoted Al and Matt as brothers, best friends, one big happy family,” the “source” explained.

“Now it’s awkward that they cannot invite ‘dad’ back to the family celebrations,” the mysterious tipster added.

While former anchor Katie Couric made an appearance at Roker’s celebration NBC never announced plans to bring Lauer back to the “Today” show.
