She’s seemingly been adapting well to life as a royal since marrying Prince Harry back in May, but there are still a few rules that Meghan Markle is reportedly struggling with when it comes to her new role.

According to People Magazine, the new Duchess of Sussex has still been struggling with some of the rules that are imposed upon her now as a member of the royal family, and that these things have been frustrating her as she tries to navigate the new challenges.

“[She] has found certain rules in the royal household difficult to understand, like the fact that the Queen prefers women in dresses or skirts rather than trouser suits, and is often asking Harry why things have to be done in a certain way,” a source told the magazine. “I think she finds it a little frustrating at times, but this is her new life, and she has to deal with it.”

Another challenge she has faced has been remembering to steer herself away from political discussions, a faux pas she made during the July 20 garden party at the British Ambassador’s residence in Dublin, when her comment that she was “pleased to see the result” of Ireland’s recent referendum to legalize abortion was exposed.

“That’s an example of her naïveté,” “Crown” historical consultant and royal biographer Robert Lacey told People. “Within the royal family they talk freely, and everyone knows the rules. She’s learning the hard way that you can’t trust anyone outside the narrow circle.”

Of course, while she does seem to be adapting well for the most part, these issues aren’t the only ones that have faced Markle since she became an official member of the royal family. Her estranged family members, notably her father, Thomas Markle, who famously missed her wedding after suffering a heart attack days before, and her half-sister, Samantha, have continued to speak to the press and reveal issues they have with the Duchess and the Royal Family as a whole.

In a recent interview with The Sun, Thomas revealed that he believed his daughter wasn’t happy with her new life.

“My thing about my daughter right now is that I think she is terrified,” he told The Sun. “I see it in her eyes, I see it in her face and I see it in her smile. I’ve seen her smile for years. I know her smile. I don’t like the one I’m seeing now. This one isn’t even a stage smile—this is a pained smile.”

Following reports that particular interview frustrated his daughter and Prince Harry, Markle again spoke out, telling TMZ that he wasn’t going anywhere and the Royal Family would do well to just talk to him and let him contact his daughter.

“I was silent for a full year and the press beat me up every day saying I was a hermit hiding in Mexico, so I gave my story,” he said. “Apparently that interview put the Royal Family in their silence mode... so, I gave another interview to break the silence. All they have to do is speak to me.”
