Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s final royal engagement turned out very differently from what royal fans expected.

On the “HeirPod” podcast, royal commentator Omid Scobie said that there was an expectation that the Cambridges and the Sussexes will be part of the Queen’s procession going into Westminster Abbey since this is what they have done in the past.

“Of course, this didn’t happen. The Sussexes were relegated to the bench in a way. Inside, they sitting alongside the Wessexes, Sophie, and Edward. The Cambridges on the program of the service was supposed to be part of that procession. Reports suggest that at the last minute it was changed to keep them equal to the Sussexes. Much had been made about the reasons for that, but I don’t think anyone really knows. All eyes were on the couples when they came in,” Scobie said.

The royal commentator went on to admit that he was quite surprised to see that there wasn’t at least a show of warmth in front of the royal during Prince Harry and Markle’s final royal engagement. The royal couple decided to quit the royal family in January, but they exit will only be made official on March 31.

Meanwhile, Scobie also shared some details from Markle’s solo engagement at Buckingham Palace. He said that Prince Harry’s wife broke down in tears at the end of the event.

“Meghan stayed behind after the students left. It was a moment for her to say goodbye to some of the staff that had been so loyal to her for the past year for the last time. It was emotional. Meghan was really composed throughout the engagement but this was a moment to be vulnerable amongst familiar faces. It was tough, she was tearful. There were hugs, to say goodbye,” he said.

The goodbyes became even more emotional since Markle reportedly knew that it was the last time that she would stand in the Buckingham Palace as a senior working royal.
