Meghan Markle’s dad, Thomas Markle Sr., reportedly knows that he won’t get to meet his grandchild anytime soon but he is still hopeful that it could happen one day.

A friend of Thomas told Express that the former lighting director is also genuinely thrilled that his daughter could welcome her first child at the end of the month. But since he is not involved with his daughter’s life at the moment, he would only be getting updates about the royal baby’s birth on television.

The unnamed friend of Thomas also revealed that the 74-year-old has been looking around different baby stores and looking for an appropriate gift to send to the United Kingdom.

“He even joked that the new arrival was likely to be showered with expensive baby items from Tiffany… with a little ‘Welcome to Tijuana’ t-shirt from him in the middle. Joking aside, the distance in miles and emotions between him and Meghan hasn’t stopped him feeling proud of her and his new grandchild,” the source said.

Thomas, who is currently residing in Mexico, plans on drinking a bottle of beer or two to celebrate the arrival of his royal grandchild.

“He is still clinging to hope that his daughter would call him at some stage to share her happiness. He has asked, ‘What else can I do?’” the source said.

The recent revelations about Thomas came after a royal expert said that he thinks he would never have the chance to meet his grandchild. Royal expert Duncan Larcombe said in “Meghan and Harry: A Royal Baby Story” that there is no reason for the Duchess of Sussex to allow her dad to meet her firstborn because of their notoriously tricky relationship.

Markle and Thomas are not in good terms and they have been feuding for the past couple of months. It all started after Thomas posed for a series of fake photos ahead of Markle and Prince Harry’s royal wedding.
