Meghan Markle’s mom was accused of being a pothead when the Duchess of Sussex was still very young.

On the online forum site Quora, one royal fan said that this shouldn’t come as a surprise because Doria Ragland is in an age group where most people got high on weed. Claire Chase said that she doesn’t know if Ragland still smokes pot today but she thinks it’s possible that she does it occasionally.

But one royal fan immediately came to Markle’s mom’s defense. Linda Gates Merrell, a graduate from the University of Texas at Austin School of Law, said that she couldn’t believe that someone would ask such an insensitive question.

“The answer, to the best of my knowledge, is absolutely not. She’s a yoga instructor, health nut, and a social worker… Again, why would you ask it?” she said.

Quora also wrote a notification on the question and said that it should be phrased with neutral and sincere language as part of the website’s policy on questions.

“This question’s wording makes it seem like a joke or intended rhetorically to make a statement, rather than looking for helpful answers. It should be rewritten to be a neutral, non-leading question,” the site wrote.

Meanwhile, this is not the first time that Ragland’s past was discussed on Quora. In the past, rumors also swirled that the Duchess of Sussex was forced to live with her dad, Thomas Markle Sr. because Ragland was sent to prison.

But the majority of the royal fans the joined in the discussion said that it’s nothing more than just malicious gossip. Markle has been attacked by online trolls ever since she joined the royal family.

Ragland was also criticized for leaving Markle with her dad just so she could work. But once again, royal fans defended Ragland for her decision to raise her daughter in the way that she did. After all, Markle grew up to be a decent person.
