Melinda Gates opened up about her high-profile divorce from Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and how their marriage began to crumble after she learned about his affair.

During an interview with Gayle King on “CBS Mornings,” Melinda Gates revealed she shed “a lot of tears for many days” after ending her 27-year marriage with the computer whiz.

Bill Gates reportedly initiated “an intimate relationship with a company employee in the year 2000,” which “ended amicably.” Although Melinda Gates forgave her then-husband for his infidelity, their relationship never fully recovered.

“I certainly believe in forgiveness, so I thought we had worked through some of that. It wasn’t one moment or one specific thing that happened. There just came a point in time where there was enough there that I realized it just wasn’t healthy, and I couldn’t trust what we had,” she told King.

After announcing their divorce in May 2021, Melinda Gates admitted she went through a series of emotions, including anger. “And I’m literally thinking, how can this be? How can I get up? How am I gonna move forward?” she said.

She added: “That’s part of the grieving process. You’re grieving a loss of something you thought you had and thought you had for your lifetime. I mean, this is painful stuff.”

Despite her difficult process, Melinda Gates suggested she has moved on from the divorce and is focused on the future.

“I started on this journey of healing, and I feel like I’m starting to get to the other side. And I do feel like I’m turning a page in the chapter now. I mean, it’s 2022, and I’m actually really excited about what’s to come and life ahead for me,” she shared.

King’s full interview with Melinda Gates is expected to air Thursday on “CBS Mornings.”
