A 17-year-old daughter was arrested Monday for fatally stabbing her 45-year-old mother in Clinton Township, a Detroit, Michigan, a suburb roughly 21 miles north of the city center, on Christmas night, local police said. The suspect was apprehended at a 7-Eleven in the town of Frasier, which is in Clinton Township, after police received a call about a deceased woman at the apartment Sunday night around 10:00 p.m.

The teen daughter had yet to be charged. But police said they were investigating the case as a murder.

The name of the daughter was not released, but neighbors in the apartment building where she reportedly had been living said they were aware of children also being housed there, according to local reports. Prior to Monday’s arrest, police had been called to that apartment over domestic abuse inquiries in which the teen suspect was the supposed offender. Local police did not say whether the 17-year-old in question was the children's primary caretaker.

“There is literally three of them,” Nikki Dawson, who lives above the suspect, told local reporters. “I see them all the time when I do my laundry. That’s my question: ‘Where are the kids?’ Because, I know they live with her.”

Neighbors told other local reporters the woman who had died had been in a wheelchair. Delano Erwin, who said he had been living in the apartment complex for three years, told local reporters he had seen police at the daughter’s unit before, but was “shocked” by the alleged killing.

“You wouldn’t think that would happen right next door to your house,” he said.

Investigators said an autopsy would be performed to find out what had caused the woman’s death.

Stephanie Nies, another Michigan woman, took her own life on Dec. 5 after killing her father after he allegedly euthanized her dog that morning. Nies was found dead in her car from a single gunshot wound roughly 5 miles from her parents’ house after police received a phone call from her where she said she killed Rayton Dale Nies with her loaded weapon.
