More than 25 million people from the Rockies to the southern Plains and the Midwest are under winter alert after forecasters have predicted a large storm bringing snow, ice and damaging winds for the next few days.

The storm will be a result of a powerful cold front in the Southern plains which is charging south and is set to meet up with the tropical moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. It will create a storm system that will produce hail, ice, severe thunderstorms, powerful wind gusts, and isolated tornadoes this week, NBC News reported.

Parts of the west and the Rockies were already covered in heavy snow, with Salt Lake City getting a record 8.6 inches of snow Monday. The snow was set to continue across the Rockies Tuesday, with the Midwest up to New England getting an icy mix breaking out from the central plains.

Moderate to heavy snow is possible Wednesday in the southern Plains which would affect parts of Texas and Oklahoma. Spotty power ways and slick roads may be caused due to the snowfall and travelers are advised to be careful. Up to 8 inches of snowfall is possible till Missouri from Southwest Texas.

Parts of Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, and Mississippi, Shreveport, Louisiana, Houston, Memphis, Tennessee, and Little Rock, Arkansas, could face strong thunderstorms. These regions would experience strong winds and large hail and are in the risk zone.

Close to 9 million people in the areas of New Orleans; Mobile and Birmingham, Alabama, and Panama City, Florida, among other cities are at risk with the chances of Thunderstorm returning here.
