It’s coming. Spike TV released the official trailer of a new series called “The Mist.” The show is adapted from a popular story written by American author Stephen King. Although a movie was made based on King’s story in 2007, this is the first time it has been adapted into a TV show.

Watch the trailer and then check out the five things we know about “The Mist” below:

New Characters

Just like the novella penned by King and the film, this horror series tells the story of the residents of a small town after a strange fog appears. Soon, the entire town is engulfed in this mysterious mist and some creepy creatures use it as a cover to attack people.

However, there will be new and interesting characters in “The Mist.” First there is Eve Copeland (Alyssa Sutherland), a school teacher who is often the center of the town’s gossip. She had a wild past that comes to haunt her when she gives a rather controversial sex-education class.

Then there is Eve’s husband Kevin (Morgan Spector), an overall nice guy whose moral compass is tested once the fog hits. Eve and Kevin have a teenaged daughter named Alex (Gus Birney) who usually plays by the rules but has a rebellious streak.

A fourth interesting character in the show is Nathalie (“American Horror Story” actress Frances Conroy), Eve and Kevin’s neighbor and an ecological martyr.

“The Mist” also stars Darren Pettie as a local sheriff and Luke Cosgrove as his son Jay.

Multiple Locations

Although the movie takes place in one location – the grocery store – “The Mist” takes place in multiple locations. A mall and a church are also shown in the Spike TV series. Also, showcasing multiple locations means different leaders emerge in each location and each leader has their own interpretation of why the fog has covered their town.

There’s Sex

Sex tends to sometimes bring out the dark side of people. As seen in glimpses in the trailer, “The Mist” often uses sex in its plot.

It’s More About How People React To The Mist

The monsters roving and attacking the townspeople is important, but what is more pertinent is seeing how people react to this situation. What happens when people are blinded by fear? What emotions come to the surface?

“It’s more about people seeking answers than the answers themselves,” Christian Torpe, the psychological thriller’s creator, told Entertainment Weekly.

“The Mist” will be true to the source material but will also change certain elements of the original story. “The novella is 200 pages and one location, and we needed to change that to make an ongoing series. But we wanted to remain faithful to the heart of the story,” said Torpe.

It Debuts In June
