The Orange County Sheriff’s Office believes the body that has been found at an apartment complex in Orlando is Miya Marcano, a 19-year-old college student who has been missing for more than a week.

Around 10:45 a.m on Saturday, a body was discovered in a wooded area nearby the Tymber Skan apartments in Orange County.

John Mina, the sheriff of Orange County, revealed the person of interest in Marcano’s disappearance, Armando Caballero, had previously lived at those apartments.

Cell phone records found Caballero was near or in the complex on Friday, Sept. 24, when Marcano went missing.

“Our hearts are broken,” Sheriff Mina said in a statement. “We have found what we believe to be the remains of Miya.”

Mina revealed there was also a purse with Marcano’s ID found near the body. However, a medical official must make a positive identification before the identity of the individual can be confirmed.

“Although we are very certain of the identity, the positive identification will have to come from the medical examiner’s office. At this time, we cannot confirm a cause of death,” Mina said.

Caballero, who was a maintenance worker at Marcano’s apartment complex, improperly used a key fob to gain access to her unit.

“We believe Armando Caballero is solely responsible for this crime,” Mina shared. “This is not the update I wanted to give everyone. Our hearts are broken. Everyone wanted this outcome to be different.”

Marcano, who was a student at Valencia College, was reported missing by her parents after she missed a flight home to South Florida on the evening of her disappearance.

“As a community, as a sheriff, as a father, we are grieving the loss of Miya. We can’t imagine the pain and anguish that Miya’s parents, family, loved ones, friends, and really the entire community have gone through,” Mina said. “We offer our deepest condolences.”

Officials revealed Caballero had expressed a romantic interest in Marcano, but she did not feel the same way. Three days after her disappearance, Caballero was found dead from an apparent suicide.
