  • More layoffs reportedly hit the sales team at Twitter on Monday
  • The workforce at social networking platform is now just over 2,700 people
  • 'An Elon Company' is looking for external engineers to join the team

Twitter boss Elon Musk told employees during an all-hands meeting Monday that the company has started actively recruiting new people, and the announcement was made on the same day workers from the company's sales team were laid off, a new report revealed.

Musk told employees during the meeting that Twitter is finally done with layoffs, according to two people who were in attendance, and a partial recording obtained by The Verge. "In terms of critical hires, I would say people who are great at writing software are the highest priority," Musk reportedly said.

The Tesla CEO also acknowledged that the embattled social media platform, which laid off about half of approximately 7,500 employees in his first week as the new boss, will encounter "a lot of mistakes" as the reorganization continues but that stability will come "over time."

News of Musk's announcement regarding new hires emerged after reports about another set of layoffs, this time affecting the sales team that reportedly lost its leader last week.

People familiar with the situation at Twitter earlier told Bloomberg that Musk was considering more layoffs on the sales team Monday.

The Platformer's Casey Newton tweeted early morning that "more layoffs hit Twitter's sales team this morning, per someone affected." Client partners and account managers were informed of the layoffs Sunday evening.

Two people who saw the number of employees still having access to Twitter's internal systems told The Verge that the workforce count has fallen to just over 2,700 people. Before the mass layoffs earlier this month, there were nearly 7,400 employees, the outlet reported.

While Musk appears to have made the official announcement about hiring only this week, reports emerged last week that the new Twitter, "an Elon Company," was looking for external engineers to join the team.

Recruiters reportedly hinted at providing competitive compensation for engineers who will join the team.

Pragmatic Engineering writer Gergely Orosz said an outreach email sent out to talents "mentioned a competitive and meritocratic environment to work at."

Meanwhile, Musk tweeted that the relaunch of Blue Verified, or the new paid blue checkmark subscription service, will be held off "until there is high confidence of stopping impersonation."

However, earlier reports indicated that Musk's Twitter has been struggling to keep impersonators and scammers in check with a smaller workforce and the loopholes of the paid subscription service.
