Family-themed holidays are excellent opportunities to celebrate and appreciate our loved ones. On National Brothers and Sisters Day, celebrated annually on May 2, people can reach out to their siblings and relive the precious memories.

It was started by an unknown woman who lost her brother, National Today said. The idea is to spend the day reconnecting with one's siblings.

National Brothers and Sisters Day is different from National Siblings Day. While the latter is an occasion to honor your siblings in general, the former is to celebrate the special bond between a brother and a sister.

Even if you are an only child, you can celebrate the occasion with the brother or sister figures in your lives, for instance, cousins or friends.

A National Today survey has found that 89% of Americans have a brother and/or a sister. Although there may be fights between siblings, most of the participants have used the words "love," support," "fun" and "laughter" to describe their relationship with their brothers and sisters.

Brothers and sisters can celebrate the day with a simple phone call, even if it's for just a few minutes. Watching your favorite movies or shows together also works. They can also do activities such as gardening, playing games or decorating cookies together.

"Brothers and sisters provide love, support, and morals that you share. They are supportive and protective of each other," Cane Bay Academy said. "We recommend that you recognize your brother or sister in any way that you know they will value."
