It’s hard not to love any food item that has chocolate chips in it. In fact, chocolate chips have the power to completely transform any sweet treat, especially cookies which are at their absolute best when added with the tasty choco-morsel.

A tray of freshly baked and warm cookies dotted with chocolate chips makes one reflect on their childhood baking memories, which perhaps is also the most compelling justification of cramming the dessert with chocolate chips to a level of guilt.

Because the world is hard to imagine without chocolate chips, May 14 is observed as National Chocolate Chip Day to honor the tiny delights.

History of National Chocolate Chip Day:

Chocolate chips were invented in 1937 by U.S. baker Ruth Graves Wakefield who cut up round chunks from a Nestle chocolate bar intending to perk up her cookie recipe. The cookies, that she baked at the Toll House Inn became a massive hit leading to Nestle approaching her to sign an agreement to add her recipe to the chocolate bar’s packaging.

Following this, Nestle introduced a small chopping tool with the bars and in 1941 several other chocolate brands joined Nestle to sell chocolate in the form of small morsel, lovingly called chocolate chips. However, the exact year when the National Chocolate Chip Day was first observed still remains unknown.
