National First Love Day is marked annually on Sept. 18 to reminisce about the first time you had a crush or fell in love with someone.

Whether it was a childhood friend or the person you chose to spend the rest of your life with, everybody has had a first love in their lives.

On this day, remember the excitement, the first date, the first kiss and that feeling of innocent love. For some, those memories might be bittersweet, but they remain with us throughout our lives.

Here are some quotes, collected from Good Reads, about first love to share on this day:

1. “The future for me is already a thing of the past - You were my first love and you will be my last” ― Bob Dylan

2. "Falling in love is very real, but I used to shake my head when people talked about soul mates, poor deluded individuals grasping at some supernatural ideal not intended for mortals but sounded pretty in a poetry book. Then, we met, and everything changed, the cynic has become the converted, the sceptic, an ardent zealot.” ― E.A. Bucchianeri

3. “There's no love like the first.” ― Nicholas Sparks

4. “You remember your first love because they show you, prove to you, that you can love and be loved, that nothing in this world is deserved except for love, that love is both how you become a person and why.” ― John Green

5. “The first stab of love is like a sunset, a blaze of color -- oranges, pearly pinks, vibrant purples...” ― Anna Godbersen

6. “A man is lucky if he is the first love of a woman. A woman is lucky if she is the last love of a man.” ― Charles Dickens

7. “That first love. And the first one who breaks your heart. For me, they just happen to be the same person.” ― Sarah Dessen

8. “One's first love is always perfect until one meets one's second love” ― Elizabeth Aston

9. “There is something extraordinary about the first time falling.” ― Ally Condie

10. “. . . love, which happens only once in life, and thereafter is never quite spontaneous or impulsive.” ― André Aciman
