National Senior Citizens Day is marked annually on Aug. 21 to recognize the accomplishments of our elders and show how much we care about them. This is not an official holiday.

In 1988, President Ronald Reagan first announced the day to raise awareness about issues that affect senior citizens.

So, celebrate this day by spending time with the seniors in your lives and by doing something special for them.
