In the wake of the Melissa King porn video scandal, Hailey Lawler has been named the new Miss Delaware Teen USA. Lawler was runner-up to King and now will take the crown.

As previously reported by IBTimes, King resigned as Miss Delaware Teen USA on Tuesday after news broke that GirlsdoPorn.com posted a video of a woman who looks similar to King performing various sex acts. King has denied appearing in the video but to avoid further speculation and scandal decided to give up her crown.

Lawler found out about being crowned the new Miss Delaware Teen USA on Wednesday, the News Journal noted.

“I was in complete shock and just didn’t know what to say because, I wasn’t expecting it really at all,” Lawler said about the news.

Lawler, 17, is a senior at Padua Academy in Wilmington, Del., and is also captain of her school’s soccer team. Lawler also holds a job working as a hostess for a local restaurant, the News Journal reported.

Lawler entered the Miss Delaware Teen USA pageant last November, the first time she ever competed in a beauty pageant.

The Miss Universe Organization officially named Lawler Miss Delaware Teen USA on Wednesday. “We cannot wait to see what this year has in store for Hailey as she embarks on a most remarkable journey,” directors Deborah Miller and Cynthia Provost said in a statement. As part of being crowned Miss Delaware Teen USA, Lawler will compete for the Miss Teen USA crown in the summer.

Lawler’s parents, Adam and Suzanne Lawler, are proud of their daughter and her achievements with Suzanne, speaking to the News Journal, saying, “We know that this is a really exciting time for her and an opportunity of a lifetime.”

Lawler is planning to attend St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, Pa., for the fall semester where she will major in elementary education.
