Nicolas Cage opened up about his leaked karaoke video and revealed that he gave up on karaoke since that incident. The 57-year-old actor also explained that karaoke was like therapy for him.

"Well, yeah, for me, karaoke was like therapy until someone videotaped my punk-rock version of Prince's 'Purple Rain' and it went everywhere and I said, 'I'm not going to karaoke anymore,'" Cage explained during the taped conversation with actors Andrew Garfield, Jonathan Majors, Peter Dinklage and Simon Rex.

The roundtable, which was hosted by The Hollywood Reporter, was shared Wednesday.

On hearing Cage say he's given up on karaoke, Garfield immediately responded, "Don’t steal the gift from the world. You need to keep giving."

Cage further explained that it was supposed to be a private moment. "Well, singing is therapy, I think. Absolutely. Karaoke’s supposed to be private," Cage added. "It’s like a prayer."

A video titled "Nicolas Cage Ruins Prince's 'Purple Rain' During Bizarre Karaoke Session" was posted on Youtube in April 2019; it showed the actor passionately and freely singing for an audience. With almost 400,000 views, the clip went viral online with many saying the actor looked drunk while singing. However, there were quite a few who came in the actor's support for being real and having fun while performing karaoke.

During the roundtable, Garfield shared his take on the leaked footage and said, "If you look at footage of him singing this one-man show, he wasn’t a great singer, but he was singing for his life. It was life and death."

The 38-year-old Marvel star further explained that Cage was just not singing for himself but also for everyone else around him. Actor Jonathan Majors agreed with Garfield.

"It’s back to the masculinity question," Majors explained. "I’m a Black man from Dallas, Texas. My voice is supposed to be (in a low voice) way down here. I’m not supposed to sing. I’m not supposed to cry, all these things."

The "Loki" star further shared that singing represents that you have reached a stage where you can no longer express yourself.

"Shakespeare would say, 'And they fight.' Words no longer do it. Something has transcended this place of conversation," he added. "It’s not enough. And now we’re here, and we’ve got to sing it. Sometimes, it’s rage. Sometimes, it’s heartache."

On the work front, Cage has been quite busy. The 57-year-old actor will be next seen in movies like, "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent," "The Retirement Plan," "The Old Way," "Butcher's Crossing" and "Renfield."
