Singer Nicole Scherzinger and her Formula One racer boyfriend, Lewis Hamilton, might be ready to walk down the aisle pretty soon, going by what Hamilton told British tabloid, The Sun, in a recent interview.

Speaking about his relationship with the former ‘Pussycat Dolls’ singer, Hamilton, 28, hinted that he was gearing up to propose marriage to Scherzinger, 34, whom he has dated on and off since 2008.

“We’ve been together for five years, which is quite a milestone really,” Hamilton told The Sun, adding that a wedding is on the cards in the near future. “Maybe before we get to six years,” Hamilton said.

The couple sparked rumors of an engagement back in 2011, when Scherzinger’s father announced that they were engaged to be married. But Hamilton and Scherzinger laughed off the news and said they were happy being “where we are right now, which is boyfriend and girlfriend,” according to The Telegraph.

Scherzinger told The Telegraph at the time that his ambitious nature is what attracted her. "I’m a pretty – what’s the word – alpha female. I guess I look for an alpha male because I vibrate at a certain level. And I like someone who has ambitions like me. And that's Lewis."

Scherzinger and Hamilton have been through a lot in the five years they have been together. Their relationship was recently said to be under strain, especially due to Hamilton's and Scherzinger's hectic work schedules.

But in a 2012 episode of VH1’s ‘Behind The Music,’ Scherzinger said that Hamilton has been a constant source of support through one of the darkest phases of her life. She credited Hamilton for being instrumental in helping her fight bulimia, which she struggled with for nearly eight years.

"He gave me the courage to kind of end that disorder and that disease," Scherzinger said. "He made me feel beautiful for who I am and not what pant size I'm wearing, and that helped a lot."
