One person died Sunday afternoon after a plane crashed during take-off and burst into flames in Lake Havasu City.

The crash took place around 4.10 p.m. in a gated area south of the Lake Havasu City Airport in Arizona, north of Agave Business Park, and about 75 yards from Whelan Drive, local newspaper Today’s News-Herald reported. Lake Havasu police confirmed one person died in the crash.

Crews arrived on the scene to find the plane, a single-engine Cessna 177RG, fully engulfed in flames. The Lake Havasu City Fire Department was able to extinguish the flames within minutes but rescue crews found no survivors. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that the plane carried one person, ABC affiliate KNXV-TV reported.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the incident, with the latter being in charge of the probe and provision of updates on the crash. No further information about the incident and the deceased person’s identity has been revealed immediately.
