Orange is the New Black” star Dascha Polanco recently opened up about the success of the hit Netflix original series.

While speaking with Entertainment Tonight, the 34-year-old actress couldn’t be more proud of how Season 5 turned out. Considering that the events in all 13 episodes took place within just three days, Polanco said that the greatest challenge was how she had to be in the same emotional state all throughout the six-month filming period.

“The season is only three days, so there were moments where I’m like, ‘Wait, I’m still in the same clothes, still in the same emotional state for three days, within a six-month period. So it was a good exhaustion,” she said.

Polanco is also pleased with all the positive reviews and responses she and her co-stars have received after “Orange is the New Black” Season 5 streamed on Netflix on June 9. “A lot of people have responded in a positive way. A lot of conversation has come out about us with a show like ‘Orange.’ We’re talking about women in prison that are having babies. These discussions that were swept under the rug are being brought to light… that’s the first step to cause change,” she explained.

When asked about what will happen to her character, Daya, in Season 6, Polanco said that she doesn’t have any idea just yet. After all, the scripts are only given to them during the table read. Series creator Jenji Kohan typically surprises the cast members with exciting storylines for their respective characters just a few weeks before their first filming day.

“As in life when you’re in prison, you don’t know if you’ll survive, if you’ll be transferred, if they’ll keep you in there, if they set you free. We know there is a season six, but we don’t know where the destiny lies… Unless I hire a psychic. Somebody tell me the future,” she joked.

“Orange is the New Black” has also been renewed by Netflix for Season 7. Season 6 is expected to premiere in June 2018.
