A car crash in Oregon on Sunday resulted in both of the drivers being taken into custody by the police. Both of them were driving stolen vehicles.

Responding to a car theft, the Newberg Dundee Police pursued a Land Cruiser before it crashed into another vehicle at an intersection in downtown Newberg. The police identified the first driver as Randy Lee Cooper. According to the New York Post, Cooper, 27, was charged with attempting to elude police, reckless driving, third-degree assault, and other related crimes.

Law enforcement identified the other driver of the stolen Buick as Kirstin Nicole Begue. The 25-year-old was intoxicated at the time, and the car she was driving had been reported as stolen three weeks before the incident. She was taken into custody and is being charged for auto theft.

In an unrelated incident, a person was killed on July 4 when a man drove his vehicle into a crowd of protesters in a closed Seattle freeway. The deceased protestor, Summer Taylor, had been a frequent presence at the protests against police brutality. According to NBC12, Summer had been there since the first day and stood up with the Black Lives Matter movement.

Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., was among those who were honoring Taylor on Social media. She voiced condolences fo the family of the deceased and everyone in the movement.

She said that it was quite heartbreaking considering she was only 24, and actively exercising her rights to protest peacefully.

The driver of the car that hit the crowd was identified as Dawit Kelete. He was since taken in custody by the police, and a judge set a bail of $1.2 million. There was probable cause to hold Kelete on an investigation of vehicular assault.

The King County Prosecuting attorney’s office, however, has not filed charges against Kelete.
