the originals season 2 spoilers
Will Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Cami (Leah Pipes) act upon their feelings for one another when Season 2 of "The Originals" returns? CW

If you’re looking for a romantic storyline when Season 2 of “The Originals” returns, you’re about to be sorely disappointed. According to the CW show’s executive producer Julie Plec, the characters of her hit series are way too engulfed in drama to be falling in love – specifically the vengeful Klaus (Joseph Morgan).

When we last saw the seriously handsome hybrid, he was fulfilling his desire to seek revenge on his witch of a mother for attempting to kill baby Hope. As a punishment, he left Esther (Sonja Sohn) between a rock and a hard place, giving her the option to choose her own fate. Esther was forced to choose between committing suicide or living out the remainder of her eternal life as the creature she hates most in the world.

"We saw in the midseason finale how the vampire family neutralized Esther," "Originals" executive producer Michael Narducci told the Hollywood Reporter of Esther's new blood-sucking ways. That’s right, Klaus and Rebekah (Claire Holt) turned their mother into a vampire by slyly slipping supernatural blood into her wine. Now Esther must make a daunting decision, which will be revealed in episode 10, “Gonna Set Your Flag on Fire.”

But with Esther detained, can Klaus finally loosen his tie and enjoy a few non-life-threatening moments with Cami (Leah Pipes), since he's clearly still interested in her? Plec revealed to TVLine during an interview that Klaus will refuse to start a relationship with the blonde human -- despite their chemistry -- because she is his Achilles’ heel. And what good is a hybrid with a weakness?

“Klaus is someone who believes that love makes him weak, and he is terrified of it, yet he’s opened his heart to this daughter that’s filling his heart in a way he never thought it could be filled,” Plec explained. “Given his hesitation about embarking on too many feelings, I think he’s full up at the moment. There isn’t necessarily a romance he’s going to be interested in exploring in quite some time.”

Sorry, Klamille shippers. But if your heart is set on a romantic plot, there is still Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) and Elijah’s (Daniel Gillies) steamy storyline. The two expressed their feelings for one another -- all over the Mikaelson mansion -- in the winter finale of “The Originals.” But before the way-overdue moment between the two, Tonkin dished to MTV that her character was convinced Elijah had lost all romantic feelings for her. As if, Phebs.

"Now that she’s gone through these changes and she’s not the same person that Elijah first fell in love with," she said during the interview, "she’s afraid that he’s not going to still have those feelings, those strong feelings, for her. [She thinks] that he only fell in love with her when she was Hayley the pregnant werewolf girl, and now she’s this revenge-seeking hybrid. She doesn’t think that he’s going to love her as much anymore.”

Oh, how wrong she was! But despite the red-hot scene between the supernatural creatures, it still looks as though Hayley is keeping her word to marry Jackson (Nathan Parsons) for the sake of her pack.

“The Originals” will return with Season 2, episode 10 on Monday, Jan. 19, at 8 p.m. EST.
