Steven Cree is jumping from one time travel drama to another. “Outlander” fans know him as Ian Murray, but “A Discovery of Witches” audiences will be introduced to him as Gallowglass De Clermont.

In a press release on Thursday, Cree was announced as one of several new cast members on the British import. Gallowglass is Matthew De Clermont’s (Matthew Goode) nephew. The soldier is particularly fond of his vampire uncle.

Cree seems thrilled about the news and noted that he’d love to grow some facial hair for the part. His “Outlander” co-star Sam Heughan (who plays Jamie Fraser) congratulated his buddy and jokingly offered him some help.

“A Discovery of Witches” follows Diana (Teresa Palmer), a witch who ignores her powers. Her life is changed after accidentally finding the mysterious Book of Life. She falls in love with Matthew, a vampire, and they realize that she must hone her powers to track down the book and protect those who are in danger.

In addition to Cree, James Purefoy is joining “A Discovery of Witches” as Philippe De Clermont, Matthew’s stepfather. Paul Rhys will play Andrew Hubbard, a vampire ruler in 1590 and Sheila Hancock portrays elder witch Goody Alsop. They’re joining the expanded Season 2 cast, which also includes:

“A Discovery of Witches” Season 2 follows Matthew and Diana as they head back in time to look for the Book of Life. Meanwhile, the present-day storyline will show Diana’s aunts, Sarah (Alex Kingston) and Em (Valarie Pettiford), dealing with Matthew's mother, Ysabeau De Clermont (Lindsay Duncan). Elsewhere, the pregnant Sophie (Aisling Loftus) gets protection from Miriam (Aiysha Hart) and Marcus (Edward Bluemel) while Gerbert (Trevor Eve), Knox (Owen Teale), Satu (Malin Buska) and Domenico (Gregg Chillin) hunt down Matthew and Diana.

As book readers have already guessed, Season 2 will follow the second novel in the Deborah Harkness-penned series, “Shadow of Night.” The series has already been renewed for Season 3 as well, guaranteeing that fans will get to the satisfying conclusion of the trilogy.

Fans will have to wait to see it, though. Season 2 still doesn’t have a release date, and it isn’t confirmed where it will air in the U.S. While Season 1 debuted on streaming services Shudder and Sundance Now in January, it eventually aired on both AMC and BBC America a few months later. It isn’t clear if Season 2 will follow that pattern.
