A dog was found abandoned in an apartment in Johor, Malaysia, on Thursday, two months after its owner vacated the place, local media reported Monday.

The incident came to light after the landlord came to check the apartment Thursday. He heard the dog whining for help and immediately rushed the canine to a nearby vet. The unidentified landlord said the dog was malnourished and anemic. He believed the canine, a Husky, survived for so long by eating its own feces.

The landlord immediately took to Facebook to call out to the dog’s owner. The woman responded and said she had not abandoned the dog and came over to feed it every three days. The owner also said that three days before the landlord came over to the apartment, her friend fed the dog but did not clean the feces.

The woman later took to Facebook to say that she adopted the dog five years ago when it was dying. Vets told her the dog should not weigh over 33 pounds because of the condition of its limbs. She added that she kept the dog at the apartment “for safety reasons” as there was a pregnant woman at home.

Following the landlord's Facebook post, many people criticized the dog owner's actions.

Calling it an “irresponsible conduct,” the woman’s family members said the hate comments and messages the woman was receiving on social media was going overboard. They added that in case the woman suffers “psychological breakdown” because of this, “those people will be held responsively.” The family said in case of further harassment, they will pursue things in the court. Meanwhile, the landlord has adopted the dog.
