  • Phil Collins' lawyers said his ex-wife's claims are false and part of her effort to extort money from him
  • Orianne Bates alleged in a court filing that Collins had alcohol and prescription drug problems
  • She also claimed that the musician didn't shower or brush his teeth for nearly a year

Phil Collins has responded to his ex-wife Orianne Bates’ claims that he didn’t shower or brush his teeth for nearly a year and became a “hermit.”

The multi-award-winning musician adamantly denied the allegations made by his ex-wife, whom he sued for refusing to leave his Miami home following her marriage to Thomas Bates, in a new court filing. Collins’ lawyers said her accusations were “immaterial and impertinent” to the case, People reported.

“They are scandalous, scurrilous, unethical and, for the most part, patently false or grossly exaggerated,” Collins’ attorneys wrote in a response filed in court.

“These false and scandalous allegations are again included only so that they can be delivered by defendants to the media to try to damage Phil Collins' reputation in an effort to extort money,” they continued.

In her filing, Bates claimed that Collins started having drinking and pill problems in 2017 and that it got to a point where he'd “fall down from the combination of prescription medicines and excessive alcohol.” She further claimed that there were times when her ex-husband would hit his head and use an alias whenever he was rushed to a hospital.

Collins’ ex-wife also alleged that he became abusive, depressed and increasingly addicted to painkillers and antidepressants after his surgery. She also claimed that her former husband was “incapable of having sex.”

“He stopped showering, brushing his teeth and dressing properly (in fact, he did not shower or brush his teeth from 2019 until August 2020 when he vacated) [their home],” Bates alleged in the court documents.

“Philip's stench became so pervasive that he became a hermit, refusing to interact personally with any people,” she added. "As a result, Orianne had no choice, but to distance herself from him."

An unnamed source claimed to the New York Post that Bates’ allegations against Collins weren’t true, explaining that the musician had to take daily medication because he is suffering from a neurological problem.

On Oct. 14, the singer filed a lawsuit against Bates after she refused to leave their Miami house two days prior. Collins and his ex-wife called it quits in July after she told him via text that she had fallen in love with another man. A month later, she tied the knot with Thomas.

Collins' lawyer, Jeffery Fisher, confirmed to People on Oct. 30 that Orianne and Thomas agreed to vacate the mansion by January.
