Police officers shot and killed a pit bull after the dog bit one of the responding officers. The incident occurred at an apartment in west Ohama, Nebraska, on Saturday night.

The Omaha Police Department officers responded to an apartment at 5265 S. 157th Court in the Millard area late Saturday night after receiving a call reporting about a woman crying and yelling for help and repeated loud noises being heard.

The responding officers heard a woman crying for help and immediately called for backup. The officers tried to barge into the apartment but could get the front door only partially opened as it was blocked by the living room furniture.

With the little view to the inside of the apartment, the police saw a man in boxers covered with blood screaming “I’ll kill them." The officers could hear a woman screaming and calling out “love." A child and a dog were also inside the apartment.

The police continued to force an entry but to their surprise, after a while, the man jumped onto the barricaded furniture and charged at the police. The man, followed by his dog, charged at the officers through the hallway. When the officers tried to subdue the attacker, his dog bit one of the officers and clung on to his leg.

The officers were forced to shoot the dog which died at the spot. The police, in an attempt to subdue the man, tasered him down. The woman continued to scream and refused to come out of the apartment. When the officers tried to enter the apartment, the woman resisted their entry and the officers had to taser her too.

Both of them were rushed to Creighton University Medical Center-Bergan Mercy in a critical condition. After treatment, they were transferred to the Police Headquarters for interrogation. The duo listed the apartment as their home address. No further information was revealed.

Meanwhile, the officers found the child with two other adults in the balcony of the home. They were detained for questioning.

While searching the apartment, the police found large quantities of various drugs including paraphernalia, psychedelic mushrooms, acid, methamphetamine, and marijuana. The officers also recovered two firearms and a large amount of stacked money.

The 4-year-old boy was found with small bruises to his arm. After receiving treatment from the paramedics, he was transferred to Project Harmony. No information was available on whether the child lived with the couple.

The injured officer, identified as 32-year-old David Kirk, was rushed to Bergan Mercy in critical condition. An update on Kirk’s condition was not available as of Sunday.

“We hope for a speedy recovery for our injured member. Please keep the officer in your thoughts and prayers. Our members put their own safety on the line every day responding to emergency calls,” the Omaha police union wrote on Twitter.
