KEY POINTS

A hands-on video reveal of the PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller is finally upon us courtesy of Geoff Keighley.

There have been some leaked images of what the DualSense looks like in the hands of players, but some have questioned the veracity of those pictures.

Since the PS5 was announced, the specifics of the controller have been estimated and speculated on almost as much as the specs of the actual PlayStation 5 console itself. This past April saw the first unveiling of the DualSense controller as its design and features compared to the current DualShock controller were first exposed.

The key feature in the DualSense controller, ScreenRant points out, will be the adaptive triggers, which were created to add another layer of immersion and believability to the gaming experience by simulating the feeling of squeezing a firearm’s trigger or pulling back the string of a bow.

Controversially, however, the DualSense will also include a built-in microphone, thus enabling in-game chat between players without the need for a headset. This also raises serious privacy concerns about capturing the player’s voices and conversations without their consent.

The size of the DualSense controller has also been a topic of discussion given that the DualShock, for the longest time, seemed like the perfect fit for a gaming controller. When Sony finally revealed what the PS5 console will look like, fans immediately noticed that it seems significantly larger than its predecessor, and at least in promotional images, so did the DualSense.

Thanks to Geoff Keighley, creator of the Game Awards, fans and prospective PS5 buyers will finally get a comprehensive look at the PS5’s controller so they can judge for themselves how comfortable it will be.

Keighley announced on Twitter that he’s offering a hands-on look at the controller on Friday, July 17. His teaser Tweet showed the controller in his hand, giving the best look yet of its actual size. Expect Friday’s video to go a bit more in-depth on the DualSense, its size, and functions.

As the biggest change to Sony controllers since the addition of analog sticks, the hype over these DualSense controllers is indeed significant. With the Xbox Series X also slated to drop around this year’s holiday season, every bit of news from either side will generate headlines and views.

Along with all the new features Sony has already discussed, a patent filed earlier this year shows that the DualSense may receive optional add-ons like a wireless charging adapter and back buttons, and it’s not out of the question that there could be more accessories coming later, says ScreenRant.

Any definitive answer on how good the DualSense is compared to the DualShock will not likely be answered until more people have the units in their hands. Yet this big reveal will still be the best prolonged look at it to date, and that’s still significant.
