The Pennsylvania State Police killed the gunman who shot a trooper after a 14-hour long shootout on Wednesday.

The unnamed suspect barricaded himself in his Nelson Township residence in Tioga County where he continued to exchange shots with the police during the standoff until he was shot and killed around 2 a.m.

According to Star Gazette, Pennsylvania property records show that the home belonged to a Delos P. Lowe.

Three troopers were performing a welfare check on the home on 1507 Barney Hill Road on Tuesday when a person who had regular contact with the property’s male resident reported that the resident had been unusually out of contact for a couple of weeks.

As the troopers were inspecting the home, they announced themselves and when they failed to get a response, they entered an unlocked door and tried to call again when the first shot was fired, ABC News reported.

One trooper was shot and was airlifted out of the scene while the second trooper suffered a leg injury.

The troopers retreated from the scene and requested back up which included the state police’s Special Emergency Response Team.

The Special Emergency Response Team was called after the gunman barricaded himself in his home and refused to surrender during the stand-off.

The first trooper’s condition was deemed to be stable on Wednesday morning while the second trooper’s injuries were treated and he was eventually released.

An investigation is still on-going and the with the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office, Wellsboro and Elkland police departments and local fire and ambulance companies helping the state police on the scene.

The police said that new information about the incident will be released as the investigation develops.
