Prey has finally been released, and this new glitch might be just what you need to get an early jump on the game’s best alien abilities. Materials are required for crafting goods, and you can farm an infinite number of them really easily. It’s hard to pinpoint precisely how the glitch was discovered, but HarryNinetyFour’s video explains it pretty well.

These are the steps required to trigger the glitch.

  1. Interact with any Recycler in the game, and select the Material you wish to duplicate from your inventory. The video uses Mineral Material as an example.
  2. Switch over to the Recycler interface, and press the Split button to split the minerals into about nine parts. On console you click in the right thumbstick to do this.
  3. Interact with the Recycler once everything is split, and you’ll notice the yield is far more than you started with.
  4. Rinse and repeat as many times as you like.

When the stacked minerals get recycled, you’re essentially able to get back double the amount you put in. If you had recycled 150 Mineral Material, for example, you might get back as many as 300 just by farming this exploit.

For those who are just starting to get acquainted to Prey’s systems, it’s worth knowing that there are four different classes of Materials required for crafting: Organic, Synthetic, Mineral and Exotic. Exotics are a particularly special case, because they’re the main ingredient behind the Neuromod abilities that can make your character supremely powerful. In other words, if you can get in a position to farm Exotics through the Recycler, you’ll be quite the formidable, albeit alien, force.

The other three Material classes, however, wind up being just as critical for your survival. Combined with the right recipes, they’re used to create health and stat buffs as well as weapons. New players should spend lots of time collecting as much junk around the space station as possible. That’s how you’ll get your first big Mineral yields.

We’d be remiss if we didn’t point out that any glitch or exploit such as this will almost assuredly be patched fairly quickly by the powers that be over at Bethesda. We don't expect a fix to arrive this weekend given typical console patch certification procedures, but a remedy will likely pop up soon regardless.

Prey is the latest release from Bethesda’s Arkane Studios, and so far its launch appears to be going off without a hitch. Given that Arkane’s previous title, Dishonored 2, suffered from tremendous day-one issues, there was lots of apprehension surrounding its successor. From what we can see, however, everything is running pretty smoothly across all platforms.

Prey is available now on PS4, Xbox One and PC. Check out its file size and system requirement details right here.
